Quota Run

How Quota Run works

Quota Run compares Codex and Claude quota peaks and time to usage thresholds within the same plan and quota window. Participation is optional. QuotaBar on your Mac uploads signed readings, and the server calculates eligible results.

Joining

QuotaBar keeps personal records on your Mac with no account: every run, your fastest time to 100%, the time to 50% and 90%, and your highest peak. Nothing is uploaded for that.

  1. Open QuotaBar → Settings → Quota Run and choose “Sign in with quota.run”.
  2. Read the consent sheet. It lists exactly what will be uploaded, and nothing leaves the Mac until you agree.
  3. Your browser opens quota.run. Choose an available sign-in method, check that the connection code matches QuotaBar, and approve the Mac.

After joining, QuotaBar uploads new readings. To delete your site data, use Delete account on your account page. Local records are kept.

What leaves your Mac

Quota results and rankings are calculated by the server from uploaded records. The app does not determine its own ranking.

Uploaded after you join

  • Provider and plan name
  • Used percent, reset time and reading time for each quota window
  • The window's length and scope
  • A one-way digest of the provider account — never the email itself
  • Tokens per minute from local CLI logs — counts only
  • Tokens per day by tool, way of working and model; a project's name and repository only if you make it public

Never uploaded

  • Provider credentials, tokens, cookies and API keys
  • Prompts, code and model outputs
  • File and project paths
  • The provider account's email in the clear

Provider accounts: binding and ownership

QuotaBar uploads a digest identifying the signed-in provider account. quota.run stores a keyed hash of that digest. The provider account’s email is not included in quota uploads; your quota.run sign-in email is handled separately.

Binding is required to rank
Readings without a provider account don't count, so a run only ranks when every reading carries one.
First upload binds it
Each provider account belongs to one Quota account: the first one to upload readings from it. Runs from the same provider account on anyone else's Quota account are held back.
Claiming by email
If the provider account's email is one of your verified sign-in emails on quota.run, it is yours — even if someone else uploaded it first. The server checks this without any extra upload; link that email under Account → Sign-in methods to claim it. A claim made this way can't be taken over.
Account verified
The mark next to a name when every reading of that run comes from a provider account claimed by email. It's a badge, not a tier: accounts under a different email still rank.
Unbinding
Unbinding a provider account on your account page deletes your readings and runs from it. A Mac still signed in to it binds it again on its next upload, unless you unbind it in QuotaBar too.

Tiers

Every run is checked when its readings arrive. Boards show two tiers; the “Verified only” switch hides the second.

Verified

  • Every reading comes from a provider account you own
  • Readings never drop more than 2 points
  • No jump of more than 60 points within 5 minutes
  • The first reading is at 50% or less, with no gap over 20 minutes until 100% or the last reading
  • For Codex and Claude, real tokens in the local logs during the run

Standard

A believable run that misses the coverage or activity check — joined mid-window, say, or the Mac slept for a while.

Flagged

Readings that drop or leap, or a provider account owned by another Quota account. Kept for review and never shown on boards or profiles.

Unranked

A run with readings that carry no provider account. Stored, but never on a board, a profile best or recent runs.

Seasons and boards

A run
One reset period of one quota window for one provider account, from the window's start to its reset. Windows from 1 hour to 32 days rank.
A board
Everyone on the same provider, plan and window — Codex Pro 200 weekly, say. Each person appears once, with their best run.
Seasons
A season is an ISO week in UTC, counted by when the window started: 2026-W37. “This week” is the current one, “Last week” the one before, and “All time” takes each person's best from every season.
What's measured
Time from the window's start to the first reading at 100% (99.5% or more), 90% and 50%, and the highest peak. Ties on peak go to whoever got there first.
No prizes
The rankings do not offer cash prizes or rewards.

One ranked Mac

Each Mac signs its readings with a key that never leaves it — in the Secure Enclave when the Mac has one. An account can connect several Macs, but only the ranked one's readings count. Moving the ranking to another Mac waits 7 days after the last change; choosing one when there is none is always allowed.

Usage and projects

After consent, connected Macs upload daily Claude Code and Codex token counts by project, tool, way of working and model. quota.run estimates equivalent cost using public API rates. This is not the amount actually paid for a subscription.

The usage board defaults to verified days: a tool’s usage day is marked verified when an eligible quota increase for the same tool and day exists on a bound provider account. This does not verify each token or estimated amount. Turn “Verified only” off to include unverified uploads.

Projects are private until enabled in QuotaBar → Settings → Projects. A public project shows its name, repository and daily estimated cost by tool; private projects contribute unnamed totals as “other projects”. Folder paths, prompts, code and model outputs are not uploaded. Changes to project visibility take effect after synchronization.

Privacy

Your public avatar can use a linked sign-in picture or Gravatar, which matches a hash of a verified sign-in email. Choose a source or initials only in Account settings.

Public
Your username, display name, region, bio, links and projects; your results, their times and tiers; each ranked run's usage curve — how the percentage rose over the window; and, unless you turn them off on your account page, the tokens you used each day by tool and the public contribution calendar of the GitHub account you signed in with.
Not publicly displayed
Your sign-in email is used for account access and is not publicly displayed on profiles or boards. Quota uploads identify provider accounts by digest, without their email in the clear.
Leaving
Deleting your account removes your profile, projects, readings, runs, Macs and sign-in methods from quota.run. QuotaBar stops uploading and keeps its local records.
